RULES AND REGULATIONS
1st INTERNATIONAL PIANO DUET COMPETITION
KRAKOW, 27-29 APRIL 2021
The goal of the Competition is to promote Polish music for a piano duet, improve the quality of performance of music for such a chamber music group, encourage the exchange of experience between Competition participants and teachers, and popularise musical works composed for a piano duet.
§ 1
1. 1st International Piano Duet Competition, hereinafter referred to as the Competition, will be organised by The Krzyztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow – Department of Chamber Music.
2. The Competition will be held from 27 to 29 April 2021.
3. Competition auditions will take place in the Concert Hall of the Music Academy in Krakow, at ulica św. Tomasza 43.
§ 2
1. Applications to enter the Competition should be sent by 15 February 2021 with a copy of the confirmation of payment of the entry fee to the following e-mail address: konkurs.duettissimo@amuz.krakow.pl
2. In order to enter the Competition, as referred to in paragraph 1, you should send by 15 February 2021:
– a completed Application Form (available at the website of the Music Academy in Krakow) in the 1st International Piano Duet Competition tab
– the entry fee in the following amount:
1/ for entrants with Polish citizenship
1st category: PLN 200 per duet
2nd category: PLN 450 per duet
The payment should be made to the following bank account:

with a note “Konkurs Duettissimo” (Polish for “Duettissimo Competition”)
2/ for entrants from abroad
1st category: €50 per duet
2nd category: €100 per duet
The payment should be made to the following bank account:

with a note “Konkurs Duettissimo” (Polish for “Duettissimo Competition”)
3. The entrants bear the costs of travel, accommodation and board.
§ 3
1. Candidates will be notified of their placement on list of entrants by electronic mail no later than by 2 April 2021
2. A detailed schedule of auditions will be placed on the website of the Music Academy in Krakow (www.amuz.krakow.pl)
3. The Competition will be held in the following age categories:
1st category – the sum of ages of the duet members may not exceed 40 (as at 26 April 2021)
2nd category – the sum of ages of the duet members may not exceed 70 (as at 26 April 2021)
4. Competition entrants are required to perform as follows:
1st category (25-30 minutes)
Wolfgang Amadeusz Mozart – 1st part of a Sonata for four hands or two pianos
Any piece by Władysław Żeleński. Scores for the Wladyslaw Zelenski piece are available on the following website: www.eufonium.pl
Any programme.
2nd category
1st stage (15-20 minutes).
Wolfgang Amadeusz Mozart – 1st part of a Sonata and any programme.
2nd stage (35-40 minutes).
A piece by a Polish composer (except for Witold Lutosławski’s Paganini Variations for Two Pianos) and any programme.
§ 4
1. Entrants are obliged to appear for the draw regarding the order of participation on 26 April 2021 with an up-to-date document confirming their identity and date of birth.

1st category – afternoon session
28 April 2021
1st category – morning session
2nd category – afternoon session (2nd stage)
29 April 2021
2nd category – morning session (2nd stage)
Presentation of prizes and the Winners’ Concert (7:00 p.m.)
All winners selected by the Jury are obliged to take part in the winners’ concert.
§ 5
1. Competition Jury is appointed by His Magnificence Rector of the Music Academy in Krakow. The Jury will be chaired by Bartłomiej Kominek (Poland).
2. The Jury members include:

Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz (Poland)
Jan Popis (Poland)
3. The Competition Jury works on the basis of separately drawn up rules and regulations approved by the Jury members. Pursuant to one of the provisions of those rules and regulators, a professor who is a Jury member will not award points with regard to an entrant who is that professor’s pupil /student.
4. Decisions of the Competition Jury are final, irrevocable and unchallengeable.
§ 6
1. The following prizes will be awarded in the 1st International Piano Duet Competition:
1st category
– 1st Prize – PLN 6,000
– 2nd Prize – PLN 3,000
– 3rd Prize – PLN 2,000
2nd category
– 1st Prize – PLN 12,000
– 2nd Prize – PLN 6,000
– 3rd Prize – PLN 4,000
– a concert at the Karol Szymanowski “Atma” Museum in Zakopane.
– a concert for the best polish duet – Polish Piano Festival – Słupsk.
The Jury may award special prizes for:
– the best performance of 1st part of W.A. Mozart’s Sonata (PLN 1,500)
– the best performance of a Polish composer’s piece (except for W. Żeleński) (PLN 1,500)
– the best performance of Władysław Żeleński’s piece. (PLN 1,500)
2. Based on the evaluation of the quality level of the Competition, the Jury has the right to change the arrangement of prizes, their number and amounts, depending on the points awarded.
3. Any other cash prizes or prizes in kind, sponsored by institutions or private individuals should be notified to the organisers prior to the commencement of the Competition.
4. Based on its special decision, the Jury may treat those prizes as covered or not covered by the rules and regulations.
5. Prizes and distinctions will be presented to the winners during a closing ceremony of the Competition.
§ 7
1. Participation in the Competition entails transferring, free of charge, to the Music Academy in Krakow all copyright to the artistic performances recorded during all the stages of the Competition and the Winners’ Concert with respect to their:
– recording,
– reproducing on all sound and image media,
– marketing, entering into a computer and placing on the Internet,
– public replaying,
– screening,
– broadcasting by means of wire and wireless technology and by satellite as well as rebroadcasting and retransmission.
2. Competition entrants give their consent for the dissemination of their image recorded in connection with the Competition and provided to the Competition organiser. The entrants give their consent for the processing of their personal data for the purpose of the Competition organisation and in accordance with the Competition organiser’s purposes arising from its charter.
3. Entering the Competition means that you accept these rules and regulations.
4. Competition entrants confirm that they have read and understood the information clause on personal data protection whose full text is included in the Application Form.
§ 8
1. Due to the current epidemic situation the Competition organiser reserves the right to hold the Competition online.
2. The Competition organiser reserves the right to cancel the Competition without providing reasons therefor.
