Józef Rychlik – composition
Studied composition and theory of music in the class of Prof. B. Schaeffer, at the State Higher School of Music in Kraków (1965-70). In 1978 he went to Paris as bursar of the French government (Groupe de Recherches Musicales and Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique). Composer of various kinds of music (including multimedia music, where he collaborates with the painters: Andrzej Zięblioski and Ewa Ławrusiewicz). Electro-acoustic and computer compositions constitute a significant area of his creative work. His works were performed during several Polish and international festivals (Warsaw Autumn, SIMC). For the composition Subtitle – Dream of Eurydice he received a honorary award at the 7e Concours International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges (1979). He composes also music for film, theatre and syncretic works. For several years he cooperated with the Studio of Animated Films in Kraków (Jerzy Kucia, Parade; Łucja Mróz-Raynoch, Metamorphoses – for the music composed to the latter, J. Rychlik received an award at the National Festival of Short Films in Kraków, in 1989). He collaborates with Jerzy Ridan, author of documentaries and feature films (Marymont Sonate, Theatre). Mr. Rychlik was one of the founders of the Studio of Spatial Music at the J. Słowacki Theatre in Kraków. In the years 1991-98, he was head of the Division of Music and Sound in the same theatre. Currently professor of composition at the Academy of Music in Kraków.
