dr Artur Szczerbinin
Artur Szczerbinin (b. 1993) began his musical education in secondary music school in Przemyśl (Poland). In 2017 he graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Cracow where he studied organ with prof. Marcin Szelest. As an Erasmus student he studied in Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg with prof. Martin Schmeding and Matthias Maierhofer (academic year 2015/2016). Artur Szczerbinin won the 3rd prize on the 2nd International Organ Competition in Katowice (In the circle of European baroque organ). In 2023 he has been granted the “Young Poland” scholarship, acknowledge by Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding achievements in art.
As a soloist he took part in many masterclasses lead by renowned organist such as Pieter van Dijk, Wolfgang Zerer, Lorenzo Ghielmi, Bernhard Haas, Hans Fagius, Hayo Boerema, Johannes Geffert. Along with soloist activity Artur Szczerbinin plays basso continuo with many domestic and international ensembles, most notably: Weser Renaissance Bremen, Europäisches Hanse-Ensemble, Łódź Philharmonic, Kraków Philharmonic, Polish Orchestra of the 18th Century. He played under the direction of renowned conductors, among others: Manfred Cordes, Paul Esswood, Andreas Scholl.
In 2022 he defended a PhD thesis on Solo organ repertoire preserved in manuscript music sources from ca. 1570 to 1685 in Central and Eastern Europe and its performance practice; the thesis received positive reviews and was distinguished by the Academy.
Artur Szczerbinin carries out research on early keyboard music as well as early organ music sources and presents the results at discipline-specific conferences. His special interests are keyboard music of the late 16th and the 17th century preserved in organ tablatures and historical organ instruments. Artur Szczerbinin is one of the editors of a scientific yearbook, publish by the Salesian Organ School in Przemyśl.
