dr Ewa Czachorowska-Zygor
Music theorist, assistant professor at the Music Theory and Interpretation Department at the Academy of Music in Kraków, member of the Division of Musicologists of the Polish Composers’ Union and the Documentation Center of Krakow Composers Output. She graduated with honours in music theory at the Academy of Music in Kraków (2002; master’s thesis The Functions of Music in the Music Feature Film. Karl Hartl ”Wen die Götter lieben”. Miloš Forman ”Amadeus”), realising part of her studies at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz (Austria). As a student of the last year, she completed an assistant internship at the Institute of Composition, Conducting and Music Theory at her Alma Mater supervised by Professor Teresa Malecka.
Her interests in the field of correspondence of arts, especially music and film, had already begun during her studies. Apart from interdisciplinary issues she focuses in her scientific research on Polish contemporary music (A. Walaciński, K. Penderecki) and aesthetics. In 2008 she received a supervisor research grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in 2011 – a scholarship from the Institute of Music and Dance. She was granted the title of a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Arts. She also received the City of Kraków Award 2014 in the “Culture and Art” category for her doctoral dissertation entitled Oblicza twórcze Adama Walacińskiego. Muzyka autonomiczna. Muzyka funkcjonalna. Publicystyka [The Faces of Adam Walaciński. Autonomous Music. Functional Music. Journalism]. She participates in international (Paris, Canterbury, Vilnius, Bratislava, Avanca) and national (Poznań, Cieszyn, Białystok, Kraków) musicological conferences, cooperates with PWM Edition, Ruch muzyczny and Polish Film Institute. Moreover, she conducts variety of activities, cooperating, among others with music groups, preparing their programmes, co-organising concerts and contributing to their participation in local and the international music events.
