prof. dr hab. Paweł Solecki
Bassoonist, in 1998 graduated from the Academy of Music in Cracow in the class of prof. K. Siudmak with excellent results. He is a laureate of national music competitions and a scholarship holder of several foundations, including: International Music Camp (USA1989), Youth Arts Foundation 1989-91, European Mozart Foundation in 1994-95, where he worked, among others under the guidance of Milan Turkovič and Jessy Read. Finalist of the International Competition of Musical Individualities A. Tansman in Łódź (1998) and participant in the International Competition “Prague Spring” (2002). In 1996 he performed at the prestigious festival in Schwetzingen as part of the Polish-German Musical Meetings. In the 2004/05 season he was the first bassoonist of the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra in Beirut. In 1996-2011 he was the first bassoonist of the Capella Cracoviensis chamber orchestra. He collaborates with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra and the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra. He is a member of both the Cracow Reed Trio with which in 2005 he recorded a CD with the music of Polish composers for the DUX label, and a year later for the Polish Bach Society the Trio Sonata in E flat major BWV 525 J.S. Bach, as well as the Cracow Wind Quintet, which in 2016 and 2018, together with the outstanding Polish pianist Beata Bilińska and saxophonist Paweł Gusnar, recorded two CDs – Quint (et) essence and the Cracow Wind Quintet and Guests, nominated for the Fryderyk Award 2017 and 2020 in the category – Album of the Year – Chamber music. He has numerous premieres of works by Polish composers dedicated to Trio and Quintet, such as: Fonoplasticon by Z. Bargielski, Burlesca by M. Górecki, Wind Quartet by P. Łukaszewski or Concertino for reed trio and strings by K. Herdzin, which he recorded on a CD – Herdzin – Concerto & Concertino, nominated for the Fryderyk Award 2019 in two categories – Album of the Year – Contemporary Music and the Most Outstanding Recording of Polish Music. In 2018, he performed with the Cracow Reed Trio at the Polish Library in Paris. He also performs as a composer. In 2016, the Bassoon Quartet No. 1 was released by the Contra music publishing house.
He is the initiator of the summer Bassoon Workshops in the palace in Rybna, which he runs together with prof. dr hab. M. Barański.From November 2006, he also cooperates with the Cracow poet and singer – Basia Stępniak-Wilk.In 2017 he obtained the degree of habilitated doctor. Currently, he works as a lecturer at the Music Academy in Cracow and performs in the country and abroad as a chamber soloist.
