dr Karol Ślusarski

Born in 1983 in Kielce. He is a graduate of the Ludomir Różycki 2nd degree State Music School – specialization in playing saxophone – class of MA Andrzej Gronostaj and the Jan Śniadecki High School in Kielce. After graduating from high schools he started studies at the Karol Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice where he finished the BA studies in vocal  jazz in class of MA Agnieszka Wilczyńska – Murakowska and then the BA and MA studies in composition and jazz arrangement under Dr. hab. Jacek Glenc, professor of Music Academy, in extramural system. He graduated from the second faculty with honors in 2011. Then he started extramural third cycle studies and opened a doctoral dissertation at the above-mentioned university. In 2020, he obtained his PhD title under prof. dr hab. Andrzej Zubek.
His artistic output includes original pieces for a chamber ensemble (combo type), among others, composition performed during the concerts of the Tempero ensemble, led by Konrad Ligas, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Krakow, at Harris Piano Jazz Bar (2012), Mile Stone Jazz Club (2013), Piwnica pod Baranami (2014) in Krakow, as well as at the 2015 Neanderland Biennale in Haan and Neustadt an der Weinstrase (2016) – Germany. He also collaborates with the Małopolska Big Band led by prof. dr hab. Ryszard Krawczuk. Hence, the compilation of his compositions and arrangements for orchestral works is concerned with cooperation with this ensemble and includes, among others, an original piece performed at international artistic events: “Młyn jazz festival 2015” in Wadowice, “Summer jazz festival – Jazz Night 2015” in Krakow, “All-time Jazz Festival at the NOSPR” – soloist Rosario Giuliani (2015).
He is also an author of arrangement for Michał Urbaniak to be performed with the above mentioned orchestra at concert in Andrychów (2015). Big Band Małopolski also performed his arrangement at the “Młyn jazz festival 2016” in Wadowice. In the same year, he wrote string arrangements for a concert of Billy Cobham with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. His arrangement was also featured on the Małopolska Big Band album “Live at Młyn Jazz festival II” (2018). The above-mentioned orchestra also performed his arrangements at the State Music School in Wadowice – soloist Adam Bałdych, “Summer jazz festival – Jazz Night 2019” – Krakow – soloist Rosario Giuliani, in Košice – Slovakia (2019) and at the National Theater in Warsaw (2019). The Małopolska Big Band also performed his monographic program, held during an international artistic event Memorial to Miles Targi Kielce Jazz Festival (2020) – soloist dr. hab. Tomasz Kudyk. Currently, he is preparing to release his album from this concert.
After finishing his master’s studies in 2011, he began to gain experience in teaching by taking up employment at the Institute of Music Education of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, and at the Krakow School of Jazz and Popular Music. He still works in the latter institution. Since 2012, he has been teaching jazz music theory at the Academy of Music in Krakow.
