prof. dr hab. Jerzy Tosik-Warszawiak (contract)


Tosik-Warszawiak JerzyJerzy Tosik-Warszawiak  – born in 1953 in Krakow. He studied piano with Prof. Ludwik Stefański at the Academy of Music in Krakow, from which he graduated with honours.
A pianist and teacher, titular professor, head of the Chair of Chamber Music of the Academy of Music in Krakow, and professor at the Faculty of Music of the Rzeszów University.
He was the winner of the 2nd Polish National Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1974, a member of the Polish team at the 10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1980 (diploma for participation in the 2nd round), and held scholarships from the Fryderyk Chopin Society and twice from the Minister of Culture and Art. In 1977, he started working at the Academy of Music in Krakow: in 1982 he received the title of assistant professor, and in 1995 – of associate professor.

In the years 1992–2002, the pianist lived in Iceland, where he taught at music schools in Borgarnes, Akranes and Reykjavik, and also performed extensively. He conducted the Songbraedur men’s choir for eight years, with which he gave almost 100 concerts in Iceland, Ireland and Poland, and recorded a CD. His performance activity, including concerts with orchestras, chamber music concerts and recitals, and has taken him all over Poland, as well as to England, Ireland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Belgium Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Canada, the USA, Brazil, Hungary and Italy.

Jerzy Tosik-Warszawiak participated in the Polish Piano Music Festival in Słupsk (1975, 1980), the Chopin Festival in Duszniki  Zdrój (1980), the Music in Old Cracow Festival (1986, 2003, 2005, 2007), the European Music Festival in Berlin (1997), the Jan Hofmann Festival in Nałęczów (1997), the Summer Chamber Music Soirees in Kazimierz nad Wisłą (2001), the Shenandoah Arts Festival in Winchester, USA (2004), the Silesian Summer Music Festival in Głuchołazy (2010), the 3rd Beethoven Festival in Głogówek (2010), the Music Festival in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2010), the Brahms Festival in Oldenburg, Germany (2011), the 20th Silesian Music Festival (2012), the Wawel Royal Castle at Dusk Festival (2013), the Witold Lutosławski Festival (2014), the 23rd Silesian Music Festival (2015), and the Festival in Latina, Italy (2015). In the years 2002–2003, the pianist performed with the violinist Nigel Kennedy in Poland and Germany. From 1986 until 1998, he was a member of the Berliner Klavier Trio (Tomasz Tomaszewski – violin, Michael Hussal – cello), and since 1996, he has been a pianist of the Trio Cracovia (Krzysztof Śmietana – violin, Julian Tryczyński – cello), with whom he recorded five albums. The CD with Arensky’s and Dvořák’s trios was nominated for the Polish Academy of Phonography Award “Fryderyk”. He also recorded an album with the cellist Dorota Imiełowska.

Jerzy Tosik-Warszawiak has led master classes in Poland, Germany, Iceland, Canada, Italy, the USA and Brazil.

He is a member of the International Ludwig van Beethoven Association, the Polish Academy of Phonography, the Halina and Ludwik Stefański Music Society, the European Forum of Polish Music, and also a member of the Programme Board of the Polish Chamber Musicians Association. He took part in music courses in Głuchołazy (1992 – 1999), Puławy (2001) and Hradec Kralove (2002). He has recorded for the Polish Radio and Television, and for Dutch and Icelandic radio stations.
