dr hab. Maciej Hałoń – HEAD

Born in 1988, graduated from Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Cracow, under faculty of prof. Jan Pilch. Mr Hałoń is a lecturer and tutor at Percussion and Contemporary Music Department.

He graduated both from bachelor and master studies with honours, moreover he gained doctor degree in his Alma Mater in Krakow. Alongside his classical curriculum, Mr Hałoń obtained jazz percussion specialty course led by DMA Łukasz Żyta and DMA Wojciech Fedkowicz.

He took part in various workshops by significant artists, e.g.: Theodor Milkov, Ernesto Simpson, Hakon Stone, Ed Thigpen, Gert Mortensen, Robyn Schulkowsky, Dom Famularo, Rhani Krija, Sola Akingbola, Rob Waring, Pete Lockett, Joey Baron, The Drumbassadors, and as a participant of an international project ASTAPER he has learnt from great pedagogues like: Bernhard Wulff, Massimo Pastore, Dieter Mack, Manel Ramada.

Mr. Hałoń is a Laureat of Maciej is a laureate of the Scientific Scholarship of the City of Cracow, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship, Ministry of Science and Higher Education Scholarship, the City of Cracow Creative Scholarship, Sapere Auso Scholarship.

As a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician he has participated in a number of prominent international festivals, such as Sound New (UK), World of the drums (Slovakia), Open Gate (Ukraine), Ukmerge (Lithuania), Abu Dhabi Festival (the United Arab Emirates), Actualle Music 018 oraz Vibraphonissimo (Germany), and in Poland: Sacrum Profanum, Audio Art, Emanacje, Warsaw Autumn, Poznan Musical Spring, Film Music Festival in Cracow. As a member of Amadrums Trio he performed at an international conference TEDx.

He has an honour to cooperate with world famous and significant artists and ensembles, i.e.: Steve Reich, David Lang, Julia Wolf, Sara Andon, Krzysztof Penderecki, Agata Zubel, Hanna Kulenty, Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz, Marta Ptaszyńska, Zbigniew Bujarski, Ara Ensemble, Freiburg Percussion Group.

On a daily basis Mr Hałoń performes in concerts of Beethoveen Academy Orchestra, Ignition septet, Taiko Drummers group and Amadrums Trio. He is also a cofounder of the beforementioned ensemble Amadrums, and it is worth mention that the ensemble was rewarded Grand Prix at the XIV International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist and a chamber music musician he took part in many world premieres of contemporary music, including the pieces written for Amadrums trio and also those dedicated to himself. The artist is also a cooperating with Variété Theatre.

Maciej Hałoń has also took part in numerous recordings, i.e.: Teatralna twórczość K.Pendereckiego, Musica da Camera M.Stachowskiego, Somnum M.Mengjigi, TReM M.Długosz, Hekayat I.Darwish, Vibramotion M.Bień, and apart from recording, he also arranged music for fairy tales by Pomelody. He is a co-performer and producer of a monographic album with compositions by Łukasz Pieprzyk, reorder by Amadrums Trio and Airis String Quartet (2020). In 2022 he recorded his own original project My Sonic Horizon, using hang drum, including his own compositions. This album reflects on his interest in various musical styles and genres.

Since 2020 Mr. Hałoń has been an artistic director of an international percussion festival “Sources and Inspirations”, and continues the idea planted by his mentor – prof. Jan Pilch. Maciej Hałoń is also a founder and an artistic director of the concert cycle “Horyzonty Perkusji”, focused on promoting compositions for big percussion ensembles. With his activities he tries to bring the percussion world closer to the audience, and promote young artists.

As an academic tutor he gives lectures and workshops in music schools and academic environments. For many years he has been also cooperating with Hochschule für Musik, in Nuremberg. Mr. Hałoń is also a percussion teacher at B. Rutkowski primary and secondary School of Music in Cracow.   His students are also laureates of international competitions, are active artists on local and international stages, performing classical, contemporary and popular music.
