He was born in Cracow, where he completed at his musical education. In 1979 he graduated with honours from the Academy of Music under the guidance of Professor Eugenia Umińska. In 1974, as a member of The All’Antico Chamber Orchestra, he shared first prize and a gold medal at the International Youth Orchestras Competition, under the auspices of Herbert von Karajan, in West Berlin. He is the winner of the Zdzisław Jahnke First National Violin Competition in Poznań (1976), the Sixth Chamber Music Competition in Łódź (1977) and the Musical April in Włocławek in 1978. He was semi-finalist of the Alberto Curci International Violin Competition in Naples (1979 and 1981). He has appeared many times at numerous national and international (Tschechoslovakia, Germany, Denmark, Belgium) music festivals, and has recorded for both Polish TV & Radio and German Radio and Television (ZDF). He was a soloist of Cracow chamber ensembles “Capellae Cracoviensis” and “Collegium Cracoviense”. In 1991 he was invited to perform for the Symposium on the Cultural Heritage, as a part of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe.

He has recorded a CD for Center of Jewish Culture in Cracow, and also two cassettes for „STEBO” in Cracow. On this CD you can find a unique (on a world scale) recording of Suite by John Williams for violin and piano, which is based on a music to the film “Schindler’s List“ (by Steven Spielberg). In 2014 and 2017 Record Company “Ars Sonora” released his CD “Live! Recital” and CD “Live! Recital vo;. 2” with great violin and piano sonatas and with exceptional performing of Nigun by Ernest Bloch. This CD has met with enthusiastic opinions in the music world. Additionally, with his Reiner Quartet he recorded for Vienna Modern Masters.

He plays together with outstanding Polish artists. He has got a broad repertoire in both solo and chamber music. His performances win a wide popular and critical acclaim.

In 1995 he founded “Reiner Trio”. This ensemble took part at numerous national and international music festivals, for example “Festival Van Vlaanderen” (in Belgium) or “Music in Old Cracow”. In 1999 trio was playing in the Festival “Shalom” in Lepzig (Germany), performing Trio in D minor by Felix Mendelssohn in this famous romantic composer’s house. The Trio took part in the same Festival in 2001 and 2003. Reiner Trio plays most important pieces of all periods by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Tschaikovsky, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Panufnik, Malawski and others. In 2000, Reiner Trio gave a concert for the European Union officials in Brussels, at Goethe-Institut’s invitation.

Roman Reiner teaches at the Academy of Music in Krakow from 1979, having many outstanding graduates, including concertmasters of leading Krakow orchestras and teachers of all degrees. He is a titular professor (from 2000). In 2019 and 2022 he received meaningful distinctions from the Polish President, and Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture (2024) from the Minister of National Heritage and Science.
